Remember the LaRouche folks? Well, they are still alive and well and give their full throated support to Donald Trump. Last night, at the congresswoman’s Town Hall, they put their support into action. They did it in the form of having an operative confront Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) with some pretty ridiculous ideas. Ideas like having to “eat the babies” to combat climate change.

The group has fully admitted to the action, saying:

“It was us,” the LaRouche organization tweeted late Thursday, in response to a question about whether the woman was serious. “Malthusianism isn’t new, Jonathan Swift knew that. Sometimes, only satire works.”

The Jonathan Swift reference most certainly refers to one of the late author’s works entitled “A Modest Proposal” that proposed (satirically) that people eat their children in order to solve the problem of hunger.

One person didn’t seem to get the joke. That’s right — Donald Trump.

The President responded in an overnight tweet, declaring — “AOC is a Wack Job!” in response to the viral video. Trump seemingly had no idea that the woman in the video was one of his supporters.

“I think your next campaign slogan has to be this: We have got to start eating babies,” the unnamed woman says, according to video captured by C-SPAN.

The woman told Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez the following as others in the room looked on in confusion:

“I’m so happy that you are really supporting a Green New Deal, but it’s not enough, Even if we were to bomb Russia, we still have too many people, too much pollution. So we have to get rid of the babies. That’s a big problem. Just stopping having babies is not enough. We need to eat the babies.”

AOC did in no way fall for this stunt. She initially attempted to calm the hysterical woman down and then simply explained some of the realities of climate change and offered more realistic solutions.

Check out the video below:

It is unclear what the goal of this stunt initially was. It seems that it was initially an attempt to embarrass the congresswoman — that perhaps AOC would agree with these ideas. Obviously, it did not work. Then, after it was discovered that the woman was a planted operative, they took this “satire” angle to try to explain away the stunt.

Of course, that is speculation, but there doesn’t seem to be any other explanations out there except that maybe that some of Trump’s supporters are folks who actually thought something like this would be effective in any way other than exposing their own lack of ability to pull this off.

Ironically, the only one who seems to have been fooled, was Trump himself.
