One of President Donald Trump’s supporters has been fired from his radio hosting job in Colorado for despicably wishing for a school shooting in America to interrupt the media’s impeachment coverage.
The impeachment has been a hot ticket for networks and newspapers across the nation. After all, Trump just became the third president to be impeached by the House of Representatives on Wednesday night in a historic vote that a majority of Americans support.
Of course, Republicans hate the coverage and would prefer that the media pay attention to something else.
One conservative who is tired of the wall to wall coverage of the proceedings is right-wing radio host Chuck Bonniwell on 710 KNUS in Colorado. In fact, the station is located near Aurora, where a gunman massacred multiple victims inside a movie theater just seven years ago, one of several infamous grisly mass shootings that have occurred in the area over the years.
According to ABC News:
Some of the most infamous mass shootings in U.S. history took place in Colorado, including the 1999 Columbine High School massacre that left 12 students and one teacher dead, and the July 2012 Aurora theater attack that killed a dozen moviegoers. In May, two students attacked the STEM School Highlands Ranch south of Denver, killing senior Kendrick Castillo and injuring eight others.
Just a day before the impeachment vote by the full House, Bonniwell made quite an insensitive remark wishing for a school shooting to disrupt and distract the media from the impeachment, which would benefit Trump and the Republicans.
“You know, you wish for a nice school shooting to interrupt the monopoly,” Bonniwell said before his wife and co-host Julie Hayden immediately scolded him, only to insist that her husband didn’t really say what he said.
“Don’t even say that,” Hayden said. “Don’t call us! Chuck didn’t say that.”
But he did say it. And then he inanely tried to backtrack by claiming that it should be a shooting in which “no one would be hurt.”
Seriously.
Here’s the disturbing audio via Twitter:

Apparently, conservatives are so desperate to protect Trump that they wouldn’t mind a school shooting taking place. That’s about as abhorrent as it gets. After all, some conservative gun nut may have been listening and may take action to make Bonniwell’s wish come true.
Bonniwell would offer an apology, but sabotaged his own effort by claiming the whole thing was a “joke.”
“I made an inappropriate comment meant as a joke,” he said. “I’m sorry it was not received that way.”
Indeed, it certainly was not received that way, including by KNUS, which issued a statement announcing that Bonniwell has been fired and his show pulled from the air.
OFFICIAL STATEMENT:
Given the history of school violence that has plagued our community, 710 KNUS confirms that an inappropriate comment was made on the Chuck & Julie show by co-host Chuck Bonniwell. A programming decision was made to end the program immediately.— 710 KNUS Denver (@710KNUS) December 19, 2019
This country has already mourned the loss of too many children whose lives were cut short by gun violence. It is absolutely disgusting that a right-wing radio host would wish for another one just so impeachment coverage would be disrupted. Bonniwell should never be allowed to work again. His words could have resulted in a tragedy, and still could do so. If such a shooting were to occur, the blood will be on his hands.
