South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham (R) is very upset because Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is refusing to send the articles of impeachment to the Senate so Republicans can hold a show trial and exonerate President Donald Trump without calling any witnesses.
During an appearance on Fox Business with host Maria Bartiromo, Graham began by claiming that Democrats had impeached Trump “because he chose to go to court.” That led Bartiromo, who has long made excuses for Trump, to remark:
“It’s pretty extraordinary.”
And that’s when Graham began making dead cat analogies that came across as both weird and downright unsettling, commenting:
“To this impeachment debacle, to my Democratic colleagues, impeachment is a dead cat, stop playing with it.”
Rather than move on with the interview, Bartiromo encouraged Graham to make his dead feline analogy again, which he gladly did:
“Impeachment is a dead cat. Stop playing with it, bury it. It’s going nowhere. Quit violating the Constitution and give [the] president his day in court. And let’s get this behind us so we can talk about things people really care about.”
Things people really care about, Lindsey? Millions of us care about the fact that the president of the United States may have been trying to bribe and extort Ukraine, a country that has been under direct and indirect attack from Russia for years now. We care that once again the Trump administration is only too happy to lie, cheat, steal, or sell our allies out in order to curry favor with Vladimir Putin.
We also care that Republicans are always eager to defend Trump, even when his actions threaten the national security of the United States, and we aren’t going to sit idly by and let a political party make light of very serious charges against the head of state.
Here’s a reminder for Lindsey Graham and his buddy in the White House: The stench of rot is on you. It’s got nothing to do with a dead cat.
