Ivanka Trump — who serves as a senior White House adviser only because her father is president — made it clear on Sunday that in this season of peace on earth and goodwill toward all men, she doesn’t give two hoots in hell about families who have been separated as part of her daddy’s cruel immigration plan.
During an interview with Margaret Brennan of the CBS show “Face the Nation,” Ivanka was asked:
“We went and looked and Homeland Security says there’s still around 900 children who remain separated from their families. Is that something that you continue to remain engaged on?”
Rather than express even a shred of human compassion, Trump replied:
“Well, immigration is not in part of my portfolio. Obviously, I think everyone should be engaged and the full force of the U.S. government is committed to this effort of border security, to protecting the most vulnerable.”
Wouldn’t protecting the most vulnerable be applicable to children most of all, Ivanka? Nope, she just passed the buck and then tried to reframe the debate to suggest that human trafficking was the real problem:
“That includes those being trafficked. Which this president is committed to countering and combatting human trafficking in an incredibly comprehensive and aggressive way. So the full United States government has been focused on this issue starting with the president.”
Ivanka Trump loves to say she cares about the welfare of children, but what she neglects to specify is that she only cares about those children if they happen to be members of her family. Immigrant children or American kids whose parents are seeing their food stamps cut as their health care costs rise are just another casualty of her father’s tightfisted policy to pay for his tax cuts by taking basic services for the needy in this country. They’re expendable in her mind, and that alone tells us all we need to know about Ivanka.
