Matt Schlapp, chairman of the American Conservative Union is an unwavering supporter of President Donald Trump, but remarks he made about Trump not briefing Congressional Democrats on the military strike which killed a general from Iran were quickly smacked down by those who did a brutal fact check on him.
Schlapp took to Twitter Friday evening after it was revealed that Trump had failed to notify leaders in Congress about the assassination of General Qasem Soleimani, leader of the elite Quds Force in the Iranian army. According to Schlapp, the president was right to not tell Democrats about the killing of Soleimani because they’re impeaching him:
Dear Speaker Pelosi and Adam Schiff: if you think President Trump is a traitor and should be removed from office don’t be surprised if you find yourself cut out on military decisions. It’s why impeachment without crimes is so dangerous for our national security.

There’s just one problem with that assertion, as Politico reporter Natasha Bertrand pointed out to Schlapp: Republicans were also left in the dark on the military mission:
GOP lawmakers—including the Republican chairman of Senate Intel—were cut out, too. https://t.co/DSitRwA5EY

Others on social media then joined the debate and gave Schlapp a thorough swatting:
Yet the Israelis knew in advance.

Cool. They’re officially using war as a political weapon. No one saw this coming 🙄

Yes, we already know Trump is a vindictive infant. What is the reason he cut out Sen. Burr but let his country club patrons and family in on the plan?

That’s not how it works… This is the hypocrisy that drives us crazy… You say you believe in America yet you buck the system when it suits you… It’s shameful

News flash idiot: the Constitution gives Congress separate but equal powers to the executive whether he likes being held accountable or not. Stating the truth about him doesn’t suddenly that. P.S. You’re a traitor traitor too. A pathetic, sycophantic traitor.

No, skippy—it’s the LAW:
Title 50 U.S.C. § 3093(c)(2) in “extraordinary circumstances” the President can limit info on covert operations— solely to the ‘Gang of 8’
He CAN’T cut out ANY member of the ‘Gang of 8’ cuz he doesn’t like them, or cuz they’re IMPEACHING HIS CORRUPT ASS pic.twitter.com/dIXbkZ70ts
