Whether or not you believe that Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) ever said that a woman can’t win the election in 2020, there’s no denying that Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) had a fantastic crowd-pleasing response on Tuesday night during the Democratic debate.
Sanders allegedly told Warren in 2018 that he doesn’t think a woman can win against Trump in 2020. On Tuesday night, he strongly denied ever making such a statement before a debate moderator turned to Warren for her own response.
“Senator Warren, what did you think when Senator Sanders told you a woman could not win the election?” the moderator asked.
Warren replied by making it clear that Bernie is a friend of hers and that she isn’t there to fight with him.
“I disagreed,” Warren said. “Bernie is my friend, and I’m not here to try to fight with Bernie.”
And then she definitively answered the question of whether a woman can beat Trump in November by pointing out the election record of the men versus the women in the room, which included herself and Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.).
“But look. This question about whether or not a woman can be president has been raised and it’s time for us to attack it, head-on,” she said. “I think the best way to talk about who can win is by looking at people’s winning records. So, can a woman beat Donald Trump? Look at the men on this stage. Collectively they have lost ten elections. The only people on this stage who have won every single election that they’ve been in are the women.”
The audience then erupted in cheers, the loudest of the night.
However, Warren was not done, and she warned Democrats to be united because being divided is the only way Trump can win.
“The real danger that we face as Democrats is picking a candidate who can’t pull our party together or someone who takes for granted big parts of the Democratic constituency,” she concluded.

As Bernie pointed out in his response, Hillary Clinton actually did beat Trump by 3 million votes in 2016, so it’s absurd to believe that a woman can’t beat him. As long as Democrats rally around the eventual nominee instead of refusing to vote for the nominee simply because their candidate didn’t get the nomination, Trump can be defeated. If not, Trump has four more years to destroy America and become a dictator. Then those Democrats who pouted will never get to vote for anyone again.
