Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) got more than he bargained for when he tried to shame a legislator from his home state for daring to hold a meeting with MSNBC host Rev. Al Sharpton, who is a well-known progressive Democrat.
Rep. Chris Latvala posted a photo of himself with Sharpton on Twitter, along with a message that it had been an “honor” to with him:
It was an honor to meet @TheRevAl today. #FlaPol pic.twitter.com/ecL4Y6asKO

Gaetz responded with this:
Sharpton has called
Cops “pigs”
Whites “interlopers”
Greeks “homos” and
Jews “diamond merchants”So that is pretty disgusting. https://t.co/SODj3YPBke

Wow! That’s a lot of faux outrage for a man who consistently defends a president who has called Mexicans rapists and drug dealers, bragged about how he enjoys sexually assaulting women, and regularly fires off tweets attacking anyone who dares to disagree with him.
That was all Latvala needed to remind Gaetz about a disgusting game he allegedly ran when he was serving in the Florida legislature:
And you created a game where members of the FL House got “points” for sleeping with aides, interns, lobbyists, and married legislators. Hope DC is treating you well, Comgressman. https://t.co/PGFuQHJbEJ

Hey ladies! Source: young male FL Reps have point-system contest for having sex: 1=lobbyist 2=staff 3=other legislator 6=married legislator

That led Gaetz to respond:
Just because I own you on twitter, don’t confuse me for your daddy when it comes to abusing power for sex.
Also, I missed the defense of Sharpton in your reply.

That’s when Latvala went nuclear on Gaetz, bringing up the matter of his arrest for DUI in 2008:
Have you been drinking tonight? I hope you dont get behind the wheel. I know you have had a rough few days up there.
— Chris Latvala (@ChrisLatvala) January 14, 2020
Desperately trying to change the subject, Gaetz again turned to Latvala’s meeting with Sharpton:
I spent my day talking to my friend & supporter, the President.
You spent yours with Al Sharpton.
— Matt Gaetz (@mattgaetz) January 14, 2020
Yet again, however, Latvala was equal to Gaetz and his childish taunts, completely owning him with this:
yep. I’m not afraid to meet with folks with differing opinions than mine. Hence why I posted the picture on Twitter….

Much like his political savior, President Donald Trump, Matt Gaetz thinks he’s a skilled social media warrior. The facts, however, suggest otherwise.
