President Donald Trump apparently attempted to hijack Fox News coverage of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) historic impeachment speech on Wednesday, and got called out for it by Fox News anchor Chris Wallace.

Pelosi delivered remarks in front of a painting of George Washington as she pointed out that our first president took an oath of office that Trump has violated time and time again, including when he abused his power and obstructed Congress by scheming to extort Ukraine into opening a sham investigation into his political rival. It’s a scandal that continues to unravel as more damning evidence comes to light.

“So sad, so tragic for our country that the actions taken by the President to undermine our national security, to violate his oath of office and to jeopardize the security of our elections, the integrity of our elections, has taken us to this place,” Pelosi said.

“So today, we will make history,” she announced. “When the Managers walk down the hall, we will cross a threshold in history, delivering articles of impeachment against the President of the United States for abuse of power and obstruction of the House. As we make that history, we are making progress for the American people, progress in support of our Constitution and progress in honor of the sacrifice and the vision of the Founders, progress, and honor of the sacrifice of the men and women in uniform and progress for the future of our children. Make it be very clear that this President will be held accountable, that no one is above the law and that no future president should ever entertain the idea that Article II says that he can do whatever he wants.”

Pelosi then noted that Senators also take an oath prior to the impeachment trial to be impartial.

“And so, with that, I will sign the resolution transmitting the articles of impeachment to the Senate, which will be delivered by our Managers, of whom I’m very proud,” she said. “When they bring it over to set in motion a process on the Senate side – probably tomorrow and I don’t know their schedule, but it may be as soon as tomorrow, and the Senators will take an oath of office. They will take a special oath of office to do impartial justice according to the Constitution and the laws. Let’s hope that they uphold that oath that they take tomorrow.”

Unfortunately, Senate Republicans have already violated the oath before they even recite it by rigging the trial in Trump’s favor and declaring they will acquit him regardless of the evidence and witness testimony.

While Pelosi delivered her speech, Trump scheduled a signing ceremony of his trade deal with China to occur at the very same time in a move designed to somehow distract from what Pelosi had to say.

Even Fox News anchor Chris Wallace noticed the stunt Trump tried to pull.

“The signing ceremony seemed to go on for an unusually long period of time,” Wallace said. “And I was wondering whether someone was — this is just in my head, I have no reason to believe it was true — he was sort of hoping he would outlast Speaker Pelosi’s speech so he could continue and maybe we would switch back full screen to his signing ceremony to kind of put a full stop on what the House is doing.”

Pelosi proved to have much more stamina than Trump, however, and instead of Trump getting the coverage he wanted, Fox News and the other networks covered Pelosi’s speech and continued covering the impeachment afterward, including Wallace. Clearly, history is more newsworthy than a pathetic trade deal desperately reached to de-escalate a trade war that never should have been started in the first place.
