According to Eric Trump, one of the signal achievements of his father’s presidency is the fact that people are saying “Merry Christmas” again and the war on Christmas has at last been won.
Speaking in Iowa Monday evening, Eric remarked:
“We’re saying Merry Christmas again. We weren’t saying that.”

Has anyone ever actually felt constrained from saying “Merry Christmas”? Granted, it might be poor etiquette to blurt it out at a Hanukkah celebration, but we’re all free to say Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Kwanzaa or whatever else strikes us as appropriate at the holidays. Want to say Merry anti-Christmas? Knock yourself out!
Eric’s bizarre comment even wound up making #MerryChristmas trend on Twitter. In February! You’ve heard of Christmas in July? Well now it apparently has to be celebrated 24/7/365 just so a Trump can pat the current president on the back for it as many times as possible.
Fortunately, Eric got plenty of grief from social media for his comments:
I live in good old Southern Illinois and we always did say Merry Christmas. What part of the country is this dickwad talking about. https://t.co/9XZ4YdGPqh

When a politician tells you “We’re saying ‘Merry Christmas’ again”, they’re actually telling you “I think I’m talking to an idiot.” https://t.co/CzOtwyQrQd

I really hated those 8 years when I kept getting arrested for saying Merry Christmas
It was such a bummer. Thanks Trump!!! https://t.co/tMCFcO7RmU

I’m an atheist and say Merry Christmas to people all the time. It’s such a made up controversy.

I prefer Happy Immigrant Zombie Birthday… but that’s just me.

Why WOULD we stop saying Merry Christmas? We also say Happy Hanukkah. We also say Happy Kwanzaa. We also say Happy Holidays. Who does it hurt @EricTrump to be inclusive of our fellow humans and respect their cultures. Next question: When did you go to church last?

I’d rather be able to say my insurance coverage and medication is affordable.

It’s February. Literally no one is saying “Merry Christmas”.

We’ve never really said Merry Christmas in February… so there’s that…

Hey, Eric, tell your dad we all said Happy Holidays and Merry Impeachment!
