According to Eric Trump, one of the signal achievements of his father’s presidency is the fact that people are saying “Merry Christmas” again and the war on Christmas has at last been won.

Speaking in Iowa Monday evening, Eric remarked:

“We’re saying Merry Christmas again. We weren’t saying that.”

Has anyone ever actually felt constrained from saying “Merry Christmas”? Granted, it might be poor etiquette to blurt it out at a Hanukkah celebration, but we’re all free to say Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Kwanzaa or whatever else strikes us as appropriate at the holidays. Want to say Merry anti-Christmas? Knock yourself out!

Eric’s bizarre comment even wound up making #MerryChristmas trend on Twitter. In February! You’ve heard of Christmas in July? Well now it apparently has to be celebrated 24/7/365 just so a Trump can pat the current president on the back for it as many times as possible.

Fortunately, Eric got plenty of grief from social media for his comments:

Hey, Eric, tell your dad we all said Happy Holidays and Merry Impeachment!
