President Donald Trump reportedly plans to take a lap in the presidential motorcade at the Daytona 500 on Sunday, resulting in hilarious mockery on Twitter.

The Daytona 500 has welcomed presidents before, but Trump will not only serve as grand marshal for the event, he wants to take a lap in the vehicle known as “The Beast” before the race begins.

Fox News host John Roberts relayed the report on Twitter Friday as Trump traveled to Mar-a-Lago for yet another expensive golf outing that taxpayers will be on the hook for paying.

Of course, Trump’s lap at the Daytona 500 will also be paid for by taxpayers, making it a complete waste of money at a time when Trump is citing “serious economic conditions” to excuse slashing a scheduled pay raise for federal employees.

In response to the report on Trump’s planned lap, Twitter users buried him with mockery and scorn.

NASCAR officials should be ashamed of themselves for politicizing the biggest event in the racing world. Many fans are likely Trump supporters, but there are many who are not. That being said, there’s no doubt millions of NASCAR fans are being alienated. There’s also no reason for Trump to do anything except attend the race. But, as usual, he has to make the day about himself at taxpayer expense.
