An MSNBC host called out Republican Senator Ron Johnson (WI) on Wednesday, accusing him of being more interested in trying to dig up dirt on the Biden family than taking care of the coronavirus pandemic which is sweeping across the country.

Johnson began by praising President Donald Trump’s response to the public health crisis caused by coronavirus pandemic:

“This administration has been all hands on deck. They certainly haven’t under-reacted… Getting it just right is probably impossible.”

Host Ayman Mohyeldin then noted that Johnson, who chairs the Senate Homeland Security Committee, has opened an investigation into Hunter Biden, son of Democratic presidential front-runner Joe Biden:

“What is the factual basis for launching this investigation and why now?”

Johnson responded:

“There are a lot of unanswered questions. I’m not making any charges. We just need to get to the bottom of this.”

Mohyeldin countered by asking:

“People say you are doing this at a time when the country is preoccupied with coronavirus. You are doing what looks like from some people’s perspective a political hit job on the president’s number one political opponent.”

A clearly agitated Johnson told the host:

“I actually can walk and chew gum at the same time. Now’s the time to issue subpoenas. This doesn’t take much of my time.”

That led Mohyeldin to tell Johnson:

“If Joe Biden wasn’t running for president would you be doing this investigation? I think a lot of people are looking at this and saying the basis of this investigation is politics in nature. What other grifting investigations have you launched?”

The senator replied:

“Listen, we launched this in 2017. This is basically more from my investigation into the Clinton email scandal. Our investigations, for example, revealed the drafting of the James Comey exoneration memo.

“This is necessary oversight. There’s nothing political about it other than we’re operating in a political realm.”

Necessary oversight? If so, where is Senator Johnson’s investigation of possible illegal behavior by the Trump Organization, which profits from government money when the president stays at one of his resorts and charges his Secret Service detail for their room and board? Wouldn’t that be a worthwhile subject of inquiry?

Johnson, like so many in the GOP, is only too happy to do Donald Trump’s dirty work. He and his ilk need to be voted out come November.
