Now that he has reportedly decided not to participate in the daily Coronvirus Task Force press conferences, President Donald Trump has returned to using Twitter to spread his own brand of “fake news,” suggesting that the pandemic is headed for a “miracle end.”

On Saturday morning, Trump attacked Democrats for daring to run negative campaign ads against him and then made his prediction about COVID-19:

For the record, Trump did indeed use the word “hoax” while discussing the coronavirus at a campaign rally in late February. As Snopes notes:

“During a Feb. 28, 2020, campaign rally in South Carolina, President Donald Trump likened the Democrats’ criticism of his administration’s response to the new coronavirus outbreak to their efforts to impeach him, saying ‘this is their new hoax.’ During the speech he also seemed to downplay the severity of the outbreak, comparing it to the common flu.”

But it was his “miracle end” assertion that drew the most scorn on social media:

The “miracle end” millions of us are praying for is that Donald Trump will lose the election and be sent to prison for his many crimes.
