Desperate to appear engaged and concerned when it comes to the coronavirus pandemic, President Donald Trump participated in a town hall meeting broadcast on Fox News Sunday evening. But based on some of the responses Trump gave, he’d have been better off if he’d stayed at the White House and watched TV.

At one point a woman from Alabama told the president that she had lost her job, was on the verge of being evicted, and was having to rely on donations just to feed her her children. She asked if any help was coming for people like her. Trump replied:

“You’ll get a job where you’ll make more money, frankly …I have a good feel for this stuff…we have to get it back open safely but as quickly as possible.”

Later in the town hall meeting, Fox host Martha McCallum noted that many workers in the meat packing industry have gotten ill with COVID-19 and yet those same workers have now been declared “essential workers” by Trump and forced to return to work. Once again, Trump proved he had no solution and little sympathy for those employees:

“It just shouldn’t have happened. It’s just a horrible thing. It’s all working out.”

How is it “all working out” when there are hundreds of workers from those meat packing plants sick and hospitalized? Again, Trump offered no solutions, just empty platitudes mixed with praise for himself and his administration.

At one point, the president even sounded like he was bragging about the fact that it looks like the death toll from this first wave of coronavirus will be under 100,000:

“I used to say 65,000 and now I’m saying 80 or 90.”

The American people are little more than props in Donald Trump’s personal reality show. We exist for one purpose: To bring him honor and glory. Other than that, he couldn’t care less about what happens to any of us.
