President Donald Trump has made the Republican Party so toxic that former Rep. David Jolly (R-Fla.) says he will never return to the GOP even after Trump is long gone.
Jolly has been a strong critic of Trump, who has spent his presidency turning the GOP into a poisonous well of corruption and cronyism that has turned their back on the American people and the so-called “conservative values” they used to champion.
No longer willing to return to such a party, Jolly has joined the Serve America Movement instead. The SAM is an organization dedicated to serving the best interests of the country and represents Democrats, Republicans, and independents alike.
During an interview on MSNBC, Jolly spoke about his decision to never rejoin his former party.
“Most of my fellow Never Trump Republicans will go right back to being a Republican when Donald Trump is gone. I’m not,” he said. “I’ve left the party and I’m not going back, but I also feel liberated by rejecting partisanship, and I’m not ready to pick up the blue jersey, if you will, the ideological blue jersey. But I do want to see something better … nationally we’re a democracy reform organization focused on increasing competition for both parties through undoing partisan gerrymandering, stopping state support of closed partisan primaries, addressing money in politics.”
“At the end of the day, ideology is important to a lot of voters, but a lot of voters just want a government that works, that appeals to a cross-partisan coalition,” Jolly concluded before ripping Trump and the GOP for not responding properly to the pandemic. “COVID-19 is a perfect example. It was a missed opportunity by an unfit administration and the distracted Congress. It wasn’t missed intelligence. We need better. SAM hopes to fill that gap, not in creating a moderate ideology coalition but creating a coalition around a government that works.”

So, even after Trump is gone, the GOP will have to deal with long term damage because they supported Trump and his un-American policies and childish behavior. This is going to stain the party for years to come, perhaps even decades. And they have only themselves to blame.
