President Donald Trump told Fox News radio on Wednesday that he reason he was rushed to an underground bunker below the White House last Friday had nothing to do with any fear of protesters but was instead so that an “inspection” of the bunker could be performed.

Speaking with host Brian Kilmeade, CNN reports that Trump remarked:

“They said it would be a good time to go down and take a look because maybe sometime you’re going to need it”

“I was there for a tiny, short little period of time. (It was) more for an inspection.”

However, law enforcement officials tell a much different story, alleging that the president, First Lady Melania Trump, and their son, Barron, were all taken to the protective bunker as protesters moved closer to the White House. An eight-foot high fence has now been erected around the White House perimeter.

Despite his claims, Twitter wasn’t buying the president’s excuses and poured mockery all over him:
