It appears that President Donald Trump is indeed preparing to pardon his longtime friend and confidant, Roger Stone, for crimes ranging from lying to investigators to witness tampering.
Politico notes that Trump’s hint of a pardon Stone came in a tweet the president sent out early Thursday morning:
“The pledge from the president came on Twitter, after Charlie Kirk, the founder of the conservative group Turning Point USA, wrote Tuesday that Stone ‘will serve more time in prison than 99% of these rioters destroying America’ — referring to the ongoing nationwide protests over the killing of George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, by a Minneapolis police officer.
“’This isn’t justice,’ Kirk added.“RT for a full pardon of Roger Stone!'”
The president replied:
No. Roger was a victim of a corrupt and illegal Witch Hunt, one which will go down as the greatest political crime in history. He can sleep well at night! https://t.co/HHg24tcZrx

Federal prosecutors have recommended that Stone be sentenced to prison for seven to nine years, but Trump’s tweet suggests Stone will be the latest of the president’s cronies who will be handed a Get of Jail Free card for their loyalty to the Donald.
Others on Twitter were quick to remind Trump that while he claims to be a “law and order” president, he doesn’t think the law applies to him, his family, or his friends:

Roger Stone is a #criminal, since the 1970s from Watergate to Roy Cohn to the Tobacco institute to Proud Boys to Trump’s casinos, gameshows and presidency.
A victim is a person shot for no reason.
Roger Stone chose his #criminal path

He was found guilty by a jury of his peers. Just like you will one day. You’re going to prison, traitor.

Roger Stone committed crimes more much much severe than George Floyd. Just because he was your friend and his crimes benefited you, doesn’t make him any less a criminal.

He was and is just as guilty as you were and still ARE! Remember, you were IMPEACHED!

How many “greatest political crimes” has there been? Seems about 5 alone in last month.
