Once again, President Donald Trump has been caught in a blatant lie, and this time it was his own attorney general, William Barr, who blew the whistle on him.
You probably recall that Trump tried to suggest that he was taken to the White House’s underground bunker during protests in Washington, D.C., over the death of George Floyd at the hands of police officers so he could perform an “inspection” of the facility. The president made that assertion when hashtags making fun of him (#BunkerBoy, #BunkerBoyTrump) began to trend on Twitter. Trump told Fox News radio:
“They said it would be a good time to go down and take a look because maybe sometime you’re going to need it”
“I was there for a tiny, short little period of time. (It was) more for an inspection.”
But on Monday, Barr informed Bret Baier of Fox:
“We were reacting to three days of extremely violent demonstrations right across from the White House. A lot of injuries to police officers, arson. Things were so bad that the Secret Service recommended the president go down to the bunker. We can’t have that in our country.”
Baier: If you had to do Monday over again, would you do something different?
Barr: Based on what I know now, no… Things were so bad, the secret service recommended the President go down to the bunker. We can’t have that in our country. pic.twitter.com/2p64yP9G0s

Oops! Apparently the attorney general forgot to read the script given to him by the White House.
Amazingly, Trump has yet to tweet out anything to contradict what Barr told Baier on Monday. But with various hashtags still going around social media suggesting that the president is a coward, it seems likely that he’ll try to spin a new lie before the end of the the day.
