Texas GOP Gov. Greg Abbott made a huge mistake when he hitched his political wagon to President Donald Trump and agreed to let Texas be one of the first states to reopen despite signs that the novel coronavirus was far from being under control in the Lone Star State.
Now, however, with cases spiking dramatically, Abbott is having to shutter Texas yet again, announcing Friday morning that he is ordering the closure of all bars and implementing 50 percent capacity at restaurants until the number of cases beings to decrease once again.
Yet despite his conservative credentials and close friendship with Trump, Abbott was excoriated on social media:
I’ve been a defender of yours, but this is outrageous. You can’t continue to destroy lives when we know the mortality rate is low.

Why would close these establishments in the entire state? Close in the counties with major spikes in new cases!!

Executive action this,
Executive action that,
stop the spread,
open up,
it’s the left’s fault,
it’s a hoax,
us old folks are willing to die for profit,
on, and on, and on.But no leadership, just flip-flopping.

Worst vote of my life … that’s saying a lot because I held my nose and voted for RINOs McCain and Romney..they lost so that bumps you to the top.

You must have other plans than re-election because you’re doing everything you can to lose votes and make business owners hate you. Overstepping of power and it’s time for businesses to fight back.

the mortality rate of the disease is less than the flu. but why honor the statistics when we can incite fear and panic and destroy people’s lives? that sounds like a lot more fun than having a free, productive society.
