According to Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), the time has come to declare “war” on activists who tearing down Confederate statues and monuments because anyone who wants to tear down a memorial to traitors hates the United States.
During an appearance on “Fox & Friends” Friday morning, Graham went on an extended rant about the move to take down statues that were erected all over the Deep South after the Civil War, which the South lost:
“The people doing this hate our country. They hate the way we were founded, they hate capitalism, they have no respect for religion, they have no respect for diversity of thought.”
What?! Being opposed to slaveholders and racist bigots is suddenly a bad thing? Since when? How is it hatred of country to try and make it a more perfect union?
But the South Carolina senator was far from finished embarrassing himself, adding:
“These people are the most radical people known to America.”
So, using that deeply-flawed logic led Graham to use the word “war” with his next statement:
“We’re at war with them politically.
“They want to destroy America as we know it. They hate America, and every symbol of our country, from our flag to a statue. They hate. They want to turn us into a socialist nation. They want to destroy the family unit as we know it.”
Destroy the family unit? What “family unit” is the unmarried, childless Graham referring to exactly? Sounds like he’s not doing his duty to propagate the species, which could be considered an assault on the so-called “family values” that Republicans are so fond of espousing.
Before the interview ended, Graham also did his good little lapdog duty and put in a word for his political lord and savior, President Donald Trump:
“And I tell you what – to the listeners out there: You may not believe you’re in a war but you are, politically, and you need to take sides. You need to help this President.”
We’re taking sides, Lindsey. And it’s to make sure Donald Trump is a one-term president and his congressional enablers are sent into an early retirement.
Here’s the Fox interview with Lindsey:
