If you were wondering why exactly President Donald Trump continues to slip further behind to Joe Biden in the polls, Fox News host Tucker Carlson says the reason is simple: The president is “exhausted.”

Exhausted from what? Well, according to Carlson, it’s because Trump has had to repeatedly defend himself from the “Russiagate” investigation:

“Trump was exhausted, for one thing, after three years of defending himself against Russiagate, the most elaborate and effective hoax in American history. And his staff did not very much to help. Some of them were actively disloyal, most were just confused.”

Confused? That word could easily be applied to Trump himself. But Carlson was far from finished humiliating himself, continuing his whinefest by adding:

“The core appeal of Trump was if things ever started to fall apart, he would defend you. Yes, he was loud and crude. Most bodyguards are. Only a man like Donald Trump was tough enough to fight the creeping authoritarianism of the education cartel and corporate America.”

Donald Trump as a bodyguard. Take a moment to consider that image, and ask yourself this question: Has Trump ever defended anyone but himself? If he was really interested in protecting the country, he would have done a much better job containing enemies like Russia and battling against COVID-19, which is back with a vengeance.

Carlson also tried to paint the president as some sort of brave knight standing guard over the forces of anarchy and lawlessness:

“He’s not an intellectual or an ideologue, but it was obvious he felt it strongly. Trump’s gut level instincts were on the side of order and tradition and stability, and they still are. And yet, when widespread looting and disorder arrived, the president did not act as decisively as many had hoped.”

Sure thing, Tucker.

As you can tell, Trump and his most ardent defenders are already making excuses for his abysmal failure as head of state. They cannot possibly admit that the president is a miserable failure, so they have to try and blame others. It’s the sort of thing you’d expect from a two-year-old child who gets caught breaking a window and points to the family pet. And it’s downright pathetic, just like Donald Trump himself.
