Joe Newby is the founder of something known as Conservative Firing Line, a web site that traffics in conspiracy theories and assorted right-wing drivel, so perhaps it should come as no surprise that he’s predicting the United States will devolve into mass hysteria and civil war if President Donald Trump isn’t reelected for a second term in office.
Newby begins his fear-drenched essay by asserting that the Black Lives Matter movement and calls to take down Confederate statues are merely a taste of what’s to come if Democrats retake control of the country:
“For the last few years, leftists have deliberately pushed for a second bloody civil war in America. The mainstream media has embarked on a propaganda campaign to defame anyone whose views fall to the right of Josef Stalin, calling Trump supporters stupid, uneducated hicks, or worse — Nazis. They want the complete destruction of the United States as a free and sovereign republic, and they want freedom-loving, patriotic Americans to either submit or die.”
Submit or die? That sounds more like something Trump would tweet out in response to anyone who dares to protest police brutality and the murder of African-Americans at the hands of rogue cops.
But Newby is just getting warmed up. He puts on his tinfoil-lined MAGA cap and goes full Alex Jones as he warns of executions and concentration camps:
“Add to all this talk of FEMA camps and guillotines allegedly intended to erase conservative-minded Americans, Christians and white people from the population, as if patriots would actually line up to be slaughtered like sheep. Something tells me that simply won’t happen. Thousands of guillotines pre-positioned across America for left-wing terrorists to execute conservatives, Christians and Whites in the unfolding CIVIL WAR.”
Oh, and about that “CIVIL WAR,” Newby suggests that will happen even if Trump does win in November:
“If Trump wins, the left will go on a bloody rampage, burning, looting, rioting and perhaps even killing people they perceive as Trump supporters. How much of the stupid and the crazy Americans will tolerate is unknown, but it’s fairly certain that armed conflict is inevitable if things continue as they are. No one in their right mind wants it, but it’s coming. Of course, our hope and prayer is that cooler heads will prevail and the country will pull back from the abyss.”
Clearly, right-wingers are worried that Trump is headed for defeat. So they’re playing the only card they have left: Fear. It’s a classic GOP tactic that’s be known to work in the past. But it remains to be seen if voters will fall for the BS again.
