On Saturday, shortly after the news broke that Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) had passed away after a battle with pancreatic cancer, tributes began to pour in from around the world, including a halfhearted tweet from President Donald Trump that was sent out only after the president had spent most of the day playing golf in Virginia.
Another Republican who decided to honor the late civil rights pioneer was Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), but he made a major mistake by tweeting out a photo of himself with another late black congressman, Elijah Cummings:
Rubio quickly realized his faux pas and deleted the tweet, but not before he was pelted with mockery on social media:
Marco Rubio just “all black people look alike’d” John Lewis.
How do you even make this mistake? pic.twitter.com/1ab61rTuWE

That’s not John Lewis. That’s Elijah Cummings. Delete your account at this point. Geezus.

Dear @marcorubio,
In an effort to save you from further embarrassment, I just want to let you know that this also isn’t John Lewis. pic.twitter.com/BtY7TBXG3w

There was a brief period a decade ago when many pundits claimed Marco Rubio would be the future of the GOP, and in a way, they weren’t wrong at all.

For Marco, any black man will do. #prop

He’s even in the damn photo. I just can’t.

Proof it’s all for show. Rubio and all those guys could care less, about us and their colleagues…every single relationship they have is artificial and only exists for self promotion.
