As he prepares for the 2020 Republican National Convention on Monday, President Donald Trump was confronted by another reminder that many of his relatives — including his sister — have no respect for him and are don’t believe he’s the right person to lead the country.

Maryanne Trump Barry, the president’s older sister, expressed her disgust with her famous sibling in secret tapes recorded by Mary Trump, the very same niece who recently published a devastating book which laid out numerous instances of cruel and inhumane behavior by the current president.

On the tapes, transcripts of which were obtained by the Washington Post, Maryanne Trump Barry harshly rebukes her brother for his policies on immigration and separating migrant children from their parents, remarking:

“All he wants to do is appeal to his base. He has no principles. None. None. And his base, I mean my God, if you were a religious person, you want to help people. Not do this.”

Barry also noted that she was absolutely appalled by her brother’s methods of governing as president:

“His goddamned tweet and lying, oh my God. I’m talking too freely, but you know. The change of stories. The lack of preparation. The lying. Holy shit.”

Later in the conversation with her niece, an exasperated Barry comments:

“It’s the phoniness of it all. It’s the phoniness and this cruelty. Donald is cruel.”

There’s also the matter of Donald’s admission to college. Mary alleged in her book that her uncle had someone take the SAT for him. And Barry tells her niece that she too had to try and help her brother gain admission to college:

“He was a brat. I did his homework for him. I drove him around New York City to try to get him into college.

“He went to Fordham for one year [actually two years] and then he got into University of Pennsylvania because he had somebody take the exams.”

In response to the Post report on the tapes, the White House released a statement from the president:

“Every day it’s something else, who cares. I miss my brother, and I’ll continue to work hard for the American people. Not everyone agrees, but the results are obvious. Our country will soon be stronger than ever before.”
