According to First Lady Melania Trump, Americans need to reelect her husband for another term as president because he’s “authentic” and they can always rely on his “honesty.”
Perhaps most amazing was the fact that she managed to say that with a straight face.
Newsweek reports that the first lady began her address during the second night of the Republican National Convention by attempting to make the case for why her husband deserves another four years as head of state:
“I’m here because we need my husband to be our president and commander in chief for four more years. He is what is best for our country.”
And then she bragged about how honest her husband is:
“We all know Donald Trump makes no secrets about how he feels about things. But honesty is what we as citizens deserve from our president. Whether you like it or not, you always know what he’s thinking, and that is because he’s an authentic person who loves this country and its people and wants to continue to make it better.”
Since when has the country gotten any honesty from Donald Trump? He’s told over 20,000 documented lies since he took office and often lies about things that are easily disproven. He even lied to Melania when he was shagging Stormy Daniels shortly after the birth of his son, Barron. Is that what passes for “honesty” in the Age of Trump?
There was also the obligatory call for calm in light of the most recent shooting of an unarmed black man by cops in Kenosha, Wisconsin, with Mrs. Trump remarking:
“I urge people to come together in a civil manner. so we can work and live up to our standard American ideals. I also ask people to stop the violence and looting being done in the name of justice. Never make assumptions based on the color of a person’s skin.
“Instead of tearing things down, let’s reflect on our mistakes, be proud of our evolution and look to our way forward.”
Remember the “Be Best” campaign Melania started a few years ago to address the problem of bullying, especially online? Why didn’t she use her speech to explain why she’s never applied the tenets of her program to her husband? Probably because she’s just as big of a hypocrite as he is.
