Jim Gaffigan isn’t what most people would call a “political comedian.” Gaffigan sticks more to routines about food (like Hot Pockets) and family.
But apparently, Jim Gaffigan has had enough of Donald Trump’s act. Last night on Twitter, the lighthearted stand-up took off the gloves and called Donald Trump out in no uncertain terms. He also had some words and advice for people who still support him even though as Gaffigan claims, they know he’s not honest or ever has had their best interests at heart.
“Look Trumpers I get it. As a kid I was a cubs fan and I know you stick by your team no matter what but he’s a traitor and a con man who doesn’t care about you. Deep down you know it. I’m sure you enjoy pissing people off but you know Trump is a liar and a criminal,” Gaffigan wrote in a series of tweets.
In a later Tweet, he added:
“By the way you can’t be against Cancel Culture and tell people to stay out of politics. You know that time you did a job and didn’t get paid? That’s Trump and you know it… to those of you who think Im destroying my career wake up. if Trump gets elected, the economy will never come back.”

The star comedian also had some advice for folks who want to write him off as some ‘Hollywood elite” considering he doesn’t live anywhere near Hollywood and grew up in the midwest:
“Can we stop with this HOLLYWOOD s—,” he wrote. “I’m not from Hollywood and Hollywood is just a town. Please say coastal elites (which Trump, Jared and Ivana are) Maybe people on the east and west coasts have different values from yours but they dont like liars and con men like Trump.”
Gaffigan had more to say to those who want to believe Trump’s lies and scare-tactics:
“Please dont buy that socialist crap either. Obviously Obama wasn’t a socialist. This is all lies to scare you and you know it. Biden is not radical. Are you serious?” he continued. “Remember everything Trump accuses the Democrats of he’s guilt[y] of. Dont let the socialist name calling distract you from the fact he is a fascist who has no belief in law. You know Trump just creates enemies. You know you can’t trust him. You know he been incompetent during this crisis. You know all those people didn’t need to die. Trump talks about the Space Program and you can’t safely go to a movie. Wake up. Trump budding up with dictators is RADICAL. Trump having interfering with the justice department is RADICAL. Trump pandering to the police and army (I gave 3 raises) is RADICAL.”
One of Gaffigan’s colleagues, Michael Ian Black stood up for his friend and let people know Gaffigan is hardly a “radical leftie.”
One of the reasons I love Jim Gaffigan is that his comedy is infused with deep morality; to me, he and Jeanie represent the best of Catholicism. When the moral urgency of the moment bumps against his normally apolitical comedy, he chooses morality – even if it costs him.

Gaffigan received a lot of support for coming out of his “apolitical” shell:
Trump fans are teenage girls that moved out of their parents’ home to live with their 27 year old bassist boyfriend. They can’t admit to being wrong yet. There’s too much pride wrapped up in it.

We have always appreciated @JimGaffigan's "clean humor" (honestly, my husband is often in tears from laughter), but today I followed him because I appreciated how he used his platform to speak out (f-bombs included).

Good for you, Becky. You have courage. I'm an atheist, but this stand you've taken is moral and difficult, so you, Jim, and I can agree on this.

Thank you Mr. Gaffigan. I can certainly appreciate how U went full Popeye. "That's all I can stand and I can't stands no more." And goodbye 2 all the so called fans (GOP victims) who felt U shouldn't speak truth & ur mind. Keep it up Jim, much love!

Of course, not everyone was ready to jump on Jim’s bandwagon, but they didn’t gain much traction:
Because he has a conscience. Try it sometime.

Isn't it weird, many "principled is greater than popular folks" are the same as, the "we don't agree so you lost a fan" crowd?

For those who were predicting the end of Jim Gaffigan and his career, as Mark Twain once said “reports of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.” Gaffigan might not have all the same fans when this pandemic is over, but it looks like he will have plenty of them to entertain.
