President Donald Trump is fond of saying that he loves those who serve in the military and military veterans, but comments he’s made since being elected are now coming back to haunt him, including remarks in which he suggested that amputees and wounded vets not be included as part of military parades.
According to The Atlantic, Trump was helping plan a military parade when he specifically said he didn’t want veterans who had been wounded or lost limbs as part of the celebration, declaring:
“Nobody wants to see that.”
That same article in The Atlantic also includes an explanation for the real reason the president refused to pay his respect at Aisne-Marne American Cemetery in 2018:
“When President Donald Trump canceled a visit to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery near Paris in 2018, he blamed rain for the last-minute decision, saying that ‘the helicopter couldn’t fly’ and that the Secret Service wouldn’t drive him there. Neither claim was true.
“Trump rejected the idea of the visit because he feared his hair would become disheveled in the rain, and because he did not believe it important to honor American war dead, according to four people with firsthand knowledge of the discussion that day. In a conversation with senior staff members on the morning of the scheduled visit, Trump said, ‘Why should I go to that cemetery? It’s filled with losers.’ In a separate conversation on the same trip, Trump referred to the more than 1,800 marines who lost their lives at Belleau Wood as ‘suckers’ for getting killed.”
Those remarks have led several veterans groups to condemn Trump, with Will Goodwin, an Army veteran and director of government relations for VoteVets noting:
“Donald Trump does not respect our men and women in uniform. He does not respect their families. He does not respect veterans. And worse, he has matched his vile language with action. He has abused our military, has made our country less safe, and has put our men and women in uniform in harm’s way for his own political gain.”
And Alexander McCoy, political director of Common Defense, posted this tweet Thursday evening:
Attn: my fellow @USMC vets.
The President thinks the 1,800 fallen of the battle of Belleau Wood were “suckers.”
Belleau-fucking-Wood.
Vote accordingly.#MarinesAgainstTrump#VetsAgainstTrump

With each day, it becomes even clearer that Donald Trump is completely unfit to serve as president.
