On Constitution Day of all days, Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) demonstrated that she doesn’t understand how the Constitution works.
Seriously.
Over the last 233 years since being adopted as the law of the land, the Constitution has been amended 27 times. But Blackburn is somehow a federal lawmaker even though she doesn’t seem to know that history.
Because on Thursday, she vowed that the Constitution will “never” be rewritten.

Amending the Constitution is rewriting it. That’s how amendments work. the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments completely changed how the Constitution applies to black people. It finally freed the slaves, made them full citizens, and gave them the right to vote. The 19th Amendment gave women the right to vote. The 26th set the legal voting age at 18. Every single amendment has changed the Constitution. And Blackburn should know this basic civics fact because she currently sponsors multiple proposed amendments that would also change it. Well, at least she does when she’s not questioning the patriotism of Iraq War veterans.
Blackburn humiliated herself, and Americans laughed at her.
