Eric Trump set off a flurry of activity on social media Tuesday morning when he announced that he’s “part of” the LGBT community and that his father, President Donald Trump, has tremendous support among LGBT Americans.

Eric’s remarks were prompted by an article from The New York Times in which a lesbian woman said she will be voting for the incumbent president in November, leading the president’s son to remark during an appearance “Fox & Friends”:

“The LGBT community, they are incredible. And you should see how they come out in full force for my father every single day. I’m part of that community, and we love the man.”

Uh…what?! He’s a part of that community? Shouldn’t he have told his wife before announcing it on national television?

Plenty of Twitter users were left scratching their heads in confusion, too. Others made it clear they didn’t want any association with Eric:

Later today, in an effort to best his brother, Donald Trump Jr. will probably announce that he’s Hispanic.
