White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany has frequently attacked former Vice President Joe Biden on behalf of her boss President Donald Trump, but she thought highly of him in 2015 when it seemed possible that Biden would run for president in 2016.

As we all know, Biden did not run in 2016. Instead, Hillary Clinton was the Democratic nominee and she lost the race to Trump, with more than a little help from Russia of course.

McEnany has only been Trump’s press secretary for a few months, but she has repeatedly targeted Biden as he continues to lead Trump in the polls, even to the point that even Texas is in play.

But McEnany had different words to say about Biden just five years ago when she called him a “man of the people” who would be a tough opponent for Trump to face.

“I think the Republicans run into a problem if it is Joe Biden and if it is maybe a Trump on the other side,” McEnany said according to CNN, which uncovered the audio of McEnany’s remarks on a radio program. “Because Joe Biden, one of the things he is remarkable at is really kind of being a man of the people and resonating with middle class voters. Feeling like — coming off as human. His gaffes — as much as we make fun of them — to a certain extent they make him look human. So not, since he’s likable. I think the juxtaposition of kind of the man of the people and kind of this tycoon, is a problem.”

Conversely, McEnany did not speak well of Trump during the same campaign. She not only believed him to not be a man of the people, she called him a racist.

“To me, a racist statement is a racist statement. I don’t like what Donald Trump said,” McEnany remarked after Trump called Mexicans “rapists” during his infamous speech declaring his candidacy.

“Donald Trump has shown himself to be a showman, I don’t think he is a serious candidate,” she continued. “I think it is a sideshow. It’s not within the mainstream of the candidates. The fact that the Republican Party is now having to claim him, is both unfortunate, and to me, inauthentic.”

Unfortunately, McEnany has since taken to becoming part of the Trumpian inner circle. But what she said about Biden was the truth is 2015, and it’s the truth now as Election Day approaches. Her words about Biden then should matter more than what she is saying now.
