In a sick and twisted scheme that outgoing President Donald Trump apparently allowed to occur, one of his appointees called for letting coronavirus infect millions of Americans to establish “herd immunity,” even though it would mean the deaths of thousands.

Just two months after Trump reopened the economy earlier than recommended by health experts, former science advisor Paul Alexander wrote to Health and Human Services Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Michael Caputo and six other administration officials urging a policy that would allow the virus to sweep across the nation purposely infecting millions of Americans, including children.

“There is no other way, we need to establish herd, and it only comes about allowing the non-high risk groups expose themselves to the virus. PERIOD,” Alexander wrote in the letter dated July 4th. “Infants, kids, teens, young people, young adults, middle aged with no conditions etc. have zero to little risk….so we use them to develop herd…we want them infected.”

Trump and his team have failed to do anything to stop the virus from spreading. Trump even began golfing again over the summer while Americans got sick and died. Hospitals have been pushed to the limit. Mass graves have been dug to dispose of the piling up bodies.

In fact, despite what Alexander claimed, coronavirus has killed thousands of Americans in these groups he insisted are “non-high risk groups,” culminating in the uncontrollable spread of the virus and a death toll that has eclipsed 300,000 and long-term health effects that incalculably devastating. Herd immunity failed.

Had Trump and his team kept the economy closed for another two months and advocated for everyone to wear a mask, the pandemic would not have been as deadly. Those efforts were stopping the spread and the data proves it. But Trump shut down that progress and ended up killing hundreds of thousands of Americans in the process all while ignoring and attacking health and science experts.

This is the definition of negligent homicide and every Trump administration official should be tried at The Hague for crimes against humanity and genocide. Because that’s what the Trump administration did by allowing this virus to spread.
