Outgoing President Donald Trump demanded Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger find over 11,000 votes for him so he could win the state instead of President-Elect Joe Biden, and it’s all on tape.
Trump has been contesting the Georgia election results for weeks even though he has provided zero evidence of election fraud and multiple recounts have confirmed Biden’s victory.
Biden won the state by 11,779 votes, a margin wide enough that Trump simply could not overcome it no matter how many recounts were conducted.
His legal options exhausted, Trump has apparently turned to illegal options instead.
During a phone call with Raffensperger, a Republican and the top election official in Georgia, Trump threatened him and demanded he find 11,780 votes for him.
The Washington Post reports that it “obtained a recording of the conversation in which Trump alternately berated Raffensperger, tried to flatter him, begged him to act and threatened him with vague criminal consequences if the secretary of state refused to pursue his false claims, at one point warning that Raffensperger was taking ‘a big risk.'”
“So look,” Trump said. “All I want to do is this. I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have. Because we won the state.”
This is criminal election tampering and is an impeachable offense. Trump literally tried to pressure Raffensperger to support his false election fraud allegations and demanded he manufacture just enough votes in his favor so he can declare victory.
Americans have reacted by calling for Trump to be impeached a second time.
When @neal_katyal and I wrote Impeach, we had a simple thesis:
If Senate Republicans let Trump get away with trying to cheat to win the election once, he’d never stop.
The tape from today reveals we were right.
Thank God @GaSecofState is far braver than Senate Republicans.

Two years ago, I published my case that the president’s record amounts to “an attack on the very foundations of America’s constitutional democracy” and the process of impeachment was the remedy.
Listen to the tapes from Georgia, and tell me I was wrong.https://t.co/s9Y6UMQVCn

This is the direct result of a Republican-controlled senate. They let Trump off the hook with his treasonous call to Ukraine. Refused to impeach him. Now he’s done it again, this time at the cost of American democracy. Trump is a criminal. This is far, far worse than Watergate.

The truth is out. Trump attempted blackmail and extortion. Again. Trump committed treason. Again. Congress must impeach. Again. #TrumpTapes #TrumpTreason #LockHimUp https://t.co/jNNRZxKH2S

Saying you want a specific number of votes means you are not interested in rectifying fraud. You just want to win by pressuring someone to rig the result. Impeach again.

Can you still impeach a Lame Duck President with 20 days to go before he’s dropped into the compost heap of history? Asking for a friend. https://t.co/IByn9arAAm

Congress should impeach and remove President Trump for endeavoring to commit election fraud in order to hold office unlawfully.

I wrote about this a few months but Trump should be impeached over this phone call to the Georgia Secretary of State. I’m quite serious. Impeachment could prevent him from ever seeking federal office again. https://t.co/fjSHO5b9mH

Holy. Shit.
This is criminal extortion by a sitting president in an attempt to overturn a democratic election.
Impeach him again. Then prosecute him once he’s out of office.
I know Biden wants to “heal”, and that’s how we begin that process… because this cannot stand. https://t.co/YCskXMlRft

Take 4 minutes and listen to this audio. And then remove him from office. Impeach him. Convict him. Jail him. Shun him. Treat him like the un-American pariah he is. https://t.co/8ivabvyy1O

Trump is a criminal and a traitor. He is attempting a coup to stay in power and that must not be tolerated. He needs to be impeached and prosecuted. This is a serious attack against democracy and the Constitution, and Americans must rise up to stop it.
