Democrats are poised to win majority control of the Senate after a night in which both Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff lead their races against incumbent GOP Senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler in Georgia, which would render current Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) the mere minority leader.
In quite a surprising upset, Warnock has been declared the winner of his race, which he leads by 35,000 votes against Loeffler, who refuses to concede. And while the race between Perdue and Ossoff is still too close to call, Ossoff does lead by 16,000 votes as of Wednesday morning.
A win in both races would deliver a 50-50 split in the Senate, but Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris would be the tie-breaking vote, thus giving Democrats the majority. Therefore, McConnell would lose his position as majority leader, meaning he can no longer block legislation passed by the House.
With the grim reaper of the Senate losing his power, Americans took to Twitter to mock him.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Say it with me, nice and slow to enjoy every syllable:
Former Georgia Senator, David Purdue.
Former (bought her seat) Senator Kelly Loeffler.
Former Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell.
Former US President, Vladimir Trump.

.@senatemajldr (not for long) lost the Senate last night. Today he loses control of his GOP caucus, as the Republican Party becomes the party of delusion and sedition. Good work, Mitch.

It’s not only about McConnell.
Lindsey Graham will not chair a committee.
Chuck Grassley will not chair a committee.
Marco Rubio will not chair a committee.
Richard Shelby will not chair a committee.
It’s a great day for the Senate.

Waiting a little for my $2000 stimulus check is worth it for seeing Mitch McConnell getting demoted in the Senate.

McConnell’s reign of terror in the Senate looks to be over. Americans can now get the coronavirus relief they desperately need, and Democrats can spend the next two years passing legislation that he has refused to bring up for a vote, including voting rights, healthcare, and climate change bills. America now has a government that will actually govern, all thanks to Georgia voters who did their civic duty.
