Outgoing President Donald Trump has finally caused Twitter to reach its breaking point as the social media platform suspended his account for instigating insurrection at the United States Capitol on Wednesday in an attempted coup.

Trump supporters forced their way inside the building to disrupt the certification of the election results by the House and Senate, brazenly stealing furniture and documents and taking selfies of themselves on the House and Senate floors after breaking windows and assaulting Capitol Police.

The scene was a disgrace to democracy and demonstrated the depths conservatives will sink to keep Trump in power.

Rather than tell his goons to stand down, Trump failed to condemn them or the violence and continued inciting them by repeating his false election allegations, even attempting to justify the insurrection.

“These are the things and events that happen when a sacred landslide election victory is so unceremoniously & viciously stripped away from great patriots who have been badly & unfairly treated for so long,” Trump tweeted. “Go home with love & peace. Remember this day forever!”

Trump had also earlier posted a video along the same lines.

In response, Twitter finally took action against Trump’s account by deleting three tweets, suspended him for 12 hours, and threatened to ban him.

Twitter should have acted months, even years, ago. Trump’s behavior on social media has been revolting, to say the least. After everything he has said on the platform, he should be banned. Nevertheless, it’s about damn time Twitter did something.
