House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) is being called upon to resign by Rep. Don Beyer (D-Va.) for repeating election fraud lies that led to the insurrection at the Capitol on Wednesday that resulted in five deaths and incalculable damage to our democracy.

As a GOP leader in the House, McCarthy is responsible for the actions taken by his caucus and his party. And seeing as more than 100 House Republicans joined him in the scheme to overturn the election results on January 6th, fueling the attempted coup that followed, it’s only right that he step down in disgrace.

Beyer certainly thinks so, which is why he demanded McCarthy’s resignation on Twitter in a thread in which he also called out Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Josh Hawley (R-Mo.).

McCarthy’s name will go down in history as yet another traitor who supported outgoing President Donald Trump’s scheme to be a dictator. McCarthyism takes on a whole new meaning now and he should be ashamed of that legacy.
