Donald Trump Jr. is threatening to primary the third-ranking Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives — Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) — simply because she dared to tell the truth and suggest that former President Donald Trump is facing prosecution for his role in the January 6 riots at the Capitol that led to the deaths of five people, including a police officer.
On Sunday, Cheney defended her vote in favor of impeaching Trump for an unprecedented second time, telling Fox News host Chris Wallace:
“People will want to know exactly what the president was doing. They will want to know, for example, if the tweet he sent out calling Vice President Pence a coward while the attack was underway, whether that tweet, for example, was a premeditated effort to provoke violence. There are a lot of questions that have to be answered and there will be many, many criminal investigations looking at every aspect of this and everyone who was involved.
“We’ve never seen that kind of assault by a president of the United States on another branch of government and that can never happen again.”
Of course, Cheney is absolutely correct. Trump is indeed facing being investigated and charged for his role in what took place in January 6, but her remarks clearly enraged Donald Trump Jr., according to Politico:
“After her Sunday interview, DONALD TRUMP JR. told Playbook he’s gearing up for a trip to Wyoming to take on Cheney.
“’I hear it’s lovely during primary season,’ he said.
“Expect to hear more on this front in the coming days. Rep. MATT GAETZ (R-Fla.), notably, redirected his fire from Cheney to McCarthy, retweeting a message Sunday that read: ‘Kevin McCarthy vouched for Liz Cheney. Everything she says is on him.” Gaetz added: “Kevin put it all on the line for Liz. Every House Republican knows it.'”
Junior is welcome to back anyone he wants in the 2022 race for Cheney’s seat, but he might want to consider that he too may be in court fighting to stay out of prison himself. His speech on January 6 could get him in trouble, as could his questionable actions as they relate to the 2016 contact with Russian officials that were investigated by Robert Mueller.
Just like his father, Don Jr. loves to issue threats, but he’s all talk. He’d best be looking for good defense attorneys instead of worrying about what takes place in Wyoming.
