Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas) and his GOP colleagues are whining about mean tweets posted by Neera Tanden, President Joe Biden’s nominee to head the Office of Management and Budget, conveniently ignoring that they nominated the king of mean tweets to be president twice.

Senate Republicans tolerated and even defended disgraced former President Donald Trump’s daily temper tantrums in which he bullied, attacked, and threatened his political rivals and critics, yet because Tanden has been notably critical of Republicans, they are trying to tank her nomination by accusing her of promoting “wild conspiracy theories” and supposedly being mean on social media.

“My friendly advice to President Biden is to withdraw Neera Tanden’s nomination and select someone who, at the very least, has not promoted wild conspiracy theories and openly bashed people on both sides of the aisle that she happens to disagree with,” Cornyn whined on the Senate floor Tuesday.

Here’s the video via Twitter:

Of course, Tanden is also a person of color, so Republicans are working overtime to sink her nomination by hurling accusations against her.

Again, Cornyn never objected to Trump’s tweets, and he voted to confirm several of Trump’s nominees who had worse social media histories than Tanden, including Ric Grenell. The double standard on display here is beyond galling.

Twitter users called out Cornyn’s hypocrisy.

Indeed, Cornyn and his party repeatedly pushed election conspiracy theories that have been thoroughly debunked and did so to the point that hundreds of Trump supporters stormed Congress in an attempt to kill lawmakers and overthrow democracy. Yet, Republicans voted to acquit Trump even though he incited the insurrection. Instead of whining about Tanden, Cornyn needs to to sit down and shut the hell up.
