Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) face-planted repeatedly during his remarks at CPAC on Friday, including making a claim that the Republican Party isn’t the party of country clubs even though disgraced former President Donald Trump and his kids literally live at country clubs.
CPAC, which took place in Florida this year to skirt mask regulations in Washington DC, dubiously began by wheeling in a golden statue of Trump for attendees to worship.
As ridiculous as that is, Cruz managed to make himself an even bigger joke. First, he insulted Texans, especially those who died during the recent spate of severe winter weather in the state, by joking about how Orlando isn’t as nice as Cancun, the Mexican resort town he fled to as Texans suffered.
“Orlando is awesome,” Cruz said. “But it’s not as nice as Cancun.”

Cruz then went off on an, at times, screaming rant that concluded with a reference to Scottish independence freedom fighter William Wallace and literally yelled “FREEDOM!” like Mel Gibson does in the “Braveheart” film in what appeared to be an effort to incite another insurrection attempt.

He also mocked Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), the woman who raised $5 million for Texans while he was returning from Cancun, for legitimately fearing for her life during the Capitol insurrection on January 6th that he incited and supported. On top of that, he whined about masks during a pandemic that has killed over 500,000 Americans.
Behold Ted Cruz, performing his sick schtick in front of the CPAC crowd. Chuckling over his Cancun escape. Mocking humanitarian AOC. Cackling over COVID. All while Texans back at home work to recover from catastrophic storm damage that shattered their lives. #CruzIsAJoke https://t.co/0as2ng657c

In addition, Cruz had the gall to tweet that the GOP is not the country club party. Seriously.
“The Republican Party is not the party of the country clubs, it’s the party of steel workers and construction workers and taxi drivers and cops and firefighters and waitresses,” Cruz said. “That is our party, these deplorables are here to stay!”
MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle vehemently disagreed since Trump, whom Cruz worships and is the leader of the GOP, literally lives at a country club.
“Donald Trump lives at Mar-a-Lago,” she pointed out. “Eric used to live at Seven Springs and now adjacent to Trump Westchester. Ivanka wanted to live at Bedminster but couldn’t get permits.”
What?

– Eric used to live at Seven Springs & now adjacent to Trump Westchester

Let’s also not forget that Republicans passed a trillion dollar tax cut gift for the wealthy in 2017 all while currently opposing a minimum wage hike for those workers Cruz claims his party is all about. Republicans also oppose the stimulus package that would also help those same workers.
Ted Cruz is an embarrassment and he has repeatedly demonstrated why Republicans should not be allowed to hold public office.
