White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki brilliantly handled a question on immigration that was posed to her this week by asking a simple four-word question in response before crushing disgraced former President Donald Trump.
President Joe Biden has restored compassion to America’s immigration policy, which has also restored hope to those fleeing violence and persecution in Central America. In the wake of Biden’s executive orders ending several of Trump’s cruel policies, unaccompanied children have been crossing the border seeking asylum and care.
On Friday, Psaki faced a Trump-esque “a lot of people are saying” type question about the situation.
“A lot of Americans are saying that the surges are happening under President Biden’s watch after he reversed some previous policies,” the presumably right-wing “reporter” began. “Does the administration take any accountability for what’s happening?”
Something that reporters apparently never had the spine to ask Trump whenever he began claims in the same way is who exactly are these unspecified people he is citing? Well, Psaki doesn’t take sh*t from right-wingers, so she asked.
“Who are the Americans?” she replied.
The “reporter” then sheepishly admitted that it’s not “a lot of Americans” but rather just Trump himself, who released a statement whining about Biden dismantling his inhumane immigration policies while accusing him of causing disaster.
“The spiraling tsunami at the border is overwhelming local communities, depleting budgets, crowding hospitals, and taking jobs from legal American workers,” Trump said. “When I left office, we had achieved the most secure border in our country’s history. Under Biden, it will soon be worse, more dangerous, and more out of control than ever before. He has violated his oath of office to uphold our Constitution and enforce our laws.”
Let’s not forget that Trump put kids in cages, enriched himself and his business while in office, obstructed justice repeatedly, and incited an insurrection in an attempt to stay in power. I’m pretty sure the Constitution bars all of those things and they definitely violate our laws, which Trump refused to uphold again and again.
Upon learning that Trump is the “a lot of Americans” in question, Psaki did not hold back.
“We don’t take our advice or counsel from former President Trump on immigration policy, which was not only inhumane but ineffective over the last four years,” Psaki said. “We’re going to chart our own path forward, and that includes treating children with humanity and respect and ensuring they’re safe when they cross our borders.”

Indeed, around this time every year, including the last four years, waves of migrants travel to the southern border. It’s not just something that is suddenly happening just because Biden is in office.
Frankly, however, the surge we are seeing now is the fault of Trump and his policies that cruelly forced migrants to remain in Mexico instead of properly processing them into this country to await due process, which Trump slowed down significantly. That’s why the numbers of migrants has surged. But it’s not having the apocalyptic effects that Trump is claiming. These migrants are not stealing jobs, they mostly take jobs that Americans don’t want. Furthermore, Trump has the worst jobs record of any modern president, so he’s to blame for Americans not having jobs right now, not immigrants.
The Department of Health and Human Services is a little overwhelmed but they are working around the clock to help migrants and it’s not a huge strain on local communities as Trump says. New facilities are being built to properly and humanely house migrants, and children are being reunited with their parents. Order is being restored to the immigration system after four years of chaos. And if Texas Republicans hadn’t screwed up the state’s power grid and had taken the coronavirus pandemic more seriously, perhaps hospitals would not be so overwhelmed. Once again, Trump and the GOP are blaming immigrants for problems they caused themselves.
Also, Trump’s immigration architect Stephen Miller recently claimed that Biden’s immigration policies are “cruel and inhumane” while Trump is claiming that Biden’s policies are not tough enough. Which is it?
The fact is that it’s neither. Biden is restoring due process at the border and is working to handle the influx of migrants. He’s not letting Border Patrol treat them like enemy combatants like Trump did. Border Patrol is still doing their job by apprehending migrants who do not cross at legal ports of entry. We’re just not treating migrants cruelly anymore, and we’re no longer building a useless wall either. That’s what Trump and the GOP are really upset about.
