Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Co.), who aided Trump supporters as they stormed the Capitol on January 6th, predicted that Republicans will be in control of Congress before the 2022 election during a town hall that should have taken place in a loony bin.
Boebert dubiously tweeted out House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) location during the insurrection attempt at the Capitol and was seen giving what appeared to be a reconnaissance tour of the building to Trump supporters the day before. She also voted to overturn the legitimate election results in a scheme to overthrow democracy and keep disgraced former President Donald Trump in power.
Now she’s telling her constituents in Colorado that a rogue Justice Department employee who is loyal to Trump supposedly has dirt on congressional Democrats that will force them to resign or be arrested so that Republicans can retake the majority.
“I want to tell you, I heard someone who is in very close contact with President Trump and the ins and outs of the White House under that administration,” she told a constituent who asked her if high level government officials will be held accountable for what are clearly imaginary crimes. “They talked to the owners of the Epoch Times, and they said, ‘Don’t change anything, you are right over the target.’ So, anyone who tries and tells you that this is a fringe newspaper — don’t listen to them. I have very good sources that tell me this is very good information.”
The Epoch Times is a fringe publication with ties to China. It pushes right-wing conspiracy theories that have been debunked over and over again, including claims that the insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol were Antifa pretending to be Trump supporters.
“We all know that there was information that was declassified just a few days before President Trump left office,” Boebert continued. “I know someone who is involved in declassifying that. This person is getting very tired of waiting on the DOJ to do something about it. And we’ll be hearing about it very, very soon. This is my opinion with that information that I have. I believe we’ll see resignations begin to take place, and I think we can take back the majority in the House and the Senate before 2022.”
It is highly unlikely that Boebert actually knows someone at DOJ who declassifies information. She’s a low-level freshman congresswoman. And if there is a Trump loyalist in the Justice Department who is feeding information to her, they need to be found and fired. But again, she’s likely making stuff up like Trump does. If the was actually any dirt on Democrats, Trump’s Justice Department would have declassified and released prior to the election last year.
Regardless, her remarks are further inciting violence against Democrats and are fueling plans by right-wingers to attempt future insurrections. Boebert is endangering the lives of House and Senate Democrats and she should be stripped of her committee assignments just like QAnon Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) was stripped of hers earlier this year.
The only way Republicans can take back the majority in the House is by winning elections in 2022, and with candidates like Boebert on the ballot, that’s going to be very difficult.
