Fox News host Tucker Carlson has made a career out of spewing blatantly racist, sexist, and disgusting remarks in an effort to remain relevant and outdo his colleagues Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham at the network.

But Carlson went too far Wednesday evening, suggesting that Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) is attempting to oppress white people in a manner analogous to what the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) used to do when it terrorized and lynched African-Americans.

Carlson cited comments Duckworth made in which she said she would no longer vote for nominees from the Biden administration until more Asian-Americans are named to senior White House posts. Biden assured Duckworth the issue would indeed be addressed and she withdrew her objection.

The Fox host, however, thought Duckworth’s threat was somehow the same as what the KKK used to do:

“Robert Byrd was the Tammy Duckworth of his day. Quote, ‘I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side,’ Byrd wrote, amazingly. ‘Rather, I should die a thousand times and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt, never to rise again, than to see this beloved land be degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.’ That’s real. Robert Byrd wrote that. At the time he did write it, Robert Byrd was working as a recruiter for the Ku Klux Klan, which was very much the Yale University of the time, a source of so much poison in our society.”

Right-wingers are fond of citing Byrd, who was indeed a member of the KKK at one time. However, he later renounced his segregationist past, enthusiastically endorsed voting rights for black Americans, and was honored by the NAACP when he died.

Duckworth, it should be noted, is a decorated Iraq war veteran who lost both of her legs when the helicopter she was piloting was struck by a rocket-propelled grenade. Tucker Carlson, on the other hand, attended a private prep school and has never served his country or contributed anything positive to society.

Here’s some free advice for Tucker Carlson: Next time you want to attack an American hero, find a bottle of superglue and use it on your lips.
