Desperate to appear relevant and attack the Biden administration at the same time, some Congressional Republicans thought they’d launch a ridiculous stunt that they hoped would draw attention to the issue of immigration while simultaneously allowing them to take a cheap shot at Vice President Kamala Harris.

But their best laid plans only served to make the Republicans look petty and clueless, HuffPost reports:

“House Republican leaders on Wednesday accused Vice President Kamala Harris of being absent on immigration matters ― even showing up to a press conference with a milk carton with Harris’ face on it, declaring her ‘missing’ at the border.

“One problem: At the same time, Harris was holding a White House meeting on immigration and announcing her plans to visit Mexico and Guatemala.”

As Homer Simpson would say, “D’oh!”

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) was also at the GOP press event, and she too wound up with egg on her face after remarking:

“We think it’s important the press continues to ask the White House about the extent to which the president has said Vice President Harris is in charge at the border.”

Scalise, so out of the loop that he didn’t bother to find out what was on the VP’s agenda for the day, was far from finished, even going to far as to double down and accuse the entire Biden administration of being AWOL on the border issue:

“Scalise speculated she was avoiding the border because of the effects of some of Biden’s executive orders. The president created a task force to reunite families separated at the border by former President Donald Trump’s policies, and began a review of a Trump-era program that has forced tens of thousands of people to remain in Mexico while their asylum cases are processed.

“‘Maybe because she doesn’t want to be associated with this disgraceful policy.'”

All of this led to Scalise and his colleagues being pilloried on social media:
