Fox News host Tucker Carlson should absolutely be fired after he told his viewers to call the police or child protective services if they see kids wearing masks to prevent being infected by the coronavirus.

Wearing a mask during a pandemic is one of the best ways to protect yourself and others from contracting the virus, a virus that has already killed 570,000 Americans. The CDC recommends it and so does an overwhelming consensus of health professionals.

But Carlson, who has repeatedly spewed white nationalism on his show, compared kids wearing masks to child abuse and urged his viewers to call police or child protective services if they see kids wearing masks. Seriously.

“People need fresh air. Especially children,” Carlson said. “Deprive them of fresh air and you hurt them. You knew that. We all knew that. It is obvious. As for forcing children to wear masks outside, that should be illegal. Your response when you see children wearing masks as they play should be no different from your response when you see someone beat a kid in Walmart. Call the police immediately. Contact child protective services. Keep calling until someone arrives. What you’re looking at is abuse, it’s child abuse, and you’re morally obligated to attempt to prevent it.”

Wearing a mask does not deprive anyone of oxygen, as experts have repeatedly pointed out and demonstrated. If you’re going to be around people, even wearing a mask outdoors is recommended and the responsible thing to do because even children have been killed by coronavirus.

Carlson’s diatribe against masks is going to get kids killed, especially since police have a dubious track record of killing people of color regardless of how old they are. This will be a waste of CPS and police resources and time, and that alone should be enough for Carlson to finally be terminated from the network. His lies and hateful rhetoric have gone way too far. He is clearly a deranged individual who wants societal chaos and violence. He needs to go. And Fox News should be sued.
