Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) says he’s outraged that President Joe Biden is acting like Franklin Delano Roosevelt instead of Bill Clinton and daring to pull the country “out of despair,” apparently forgetting that’s exactly why Biden was elected in the first place.
On Saturday, Cornyn posted an angry (and ill-advised) tweet in which he complained about Biden’s efforts to set the United States back on a sound financial footing:
“The era of big government is over,” POTUS Bill Clinton famously declared in his 1996 State of the Union address.
Biden has consciously cloaked himself in the legacy of FDR, to hark back to an earlier age of liberalism when government pulled the country out of despair.

How dare FDR save the country from the Great Depression! And how dare Biden face down a pandemic and economic downturn with policies that will protect people and put them back to work!
It didn’t take long for internet karma to catch up with Cornyn:
I’d rather be pulled out of despair by Democrats than left to rot in despair by Republicans.

This is legitimately a glowing endorsement of Biden, and the fact that Cornyn (and his staff) can’t see that shows exactly how out of touch they are with working Americans.
Working people want their government to give a shit about them and pull the country out of despair.

FDR is considered one of the greatest presidents in history. He pulled us out of the Great Depression and turned the US into a superpower.

Do you even understand your own tweets? “…when government pulled the country out of despair.” Isn’t that precisely what WE THE PEOPLE WANT AND NEED???!!!!

Pardon, but its more than a bit rich for any Texas politician to rail against ‘big gov’t’ after your power system debacle and the nearly $200B in losses and $20B in Federal bailout it incurred, while your neighboring states saw zero issues…..
You’re bad at governing

The rest of that quote from the @llerer column in the @nytimes that you are citing, Senator @JohnCornyn
“He [Trump] drove the national debt to the highest level since World War II, pushing through a $2 trillion tax cut that did little for middle-class families.”

151 Texans died when the state’s entire energy grid went down.
Government can help people. When it’s not run by Republicans.

FDR inherited the disaster of The Great Depression.
Biden inherited the disaster of Trumpism and dip-shits like YOU, @JohnCornyn.
Great crises require great action. https://t.co/cENDJHr2dN

Is this supposed to be an attack because it sounds a lot like an endorsement? https://t.co/EL6VKXmwJw
