As Republicans desperately attempt to frame the Capitol insurrection as nothing more than a peaceful gathering of supposed tourists, Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn slammed them and their scheme to rewrite history.

There are hundreds of hours of video footage inside and outside the Capitol on January 6th demonstrating beyond a shadow of a doubt that a mob of Trump supporters stormed the building with the intent of overthrowing democracy and killing lawmakers along the way.

But Republicans are denying all of the evidence even though many of the insurrectionists themselves have admitted to what they did, including plans to hunt down and assassinate House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-Ga.) insisted this week that “there was no insurrection.”

“There was no insurrection and to call it an insurrection in my opinion, is a bald-faced lie,” Clyde said. “Watching the TV footage of those who entered the Capitol, and walk through Statuary Hall showed people in an orderly fashion staying between the stanchions and ropes taking videos and pictures, you know. If you didn’t know that TV footage was a video from January the sixth, you would actually think it was a normal tourist visit.”

These remarks came just after Clyde admitted that the doors to the House chamber had to be barricaded as the mob tried to force their way inside. Security even had their weapons drawn preparing to fire at anyone who managed to breach the barricade. Insurrectionists also broke into offices, looted documents and computers containing sensitive information, defecated in the hallways, brought zip ties to take lawmakers as their prisoners, and brutally assaulted police officers defending the building. The National Guard had to be called in to clear the grounds.

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) ridiculously claimed that he never saw any violence.

Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn refuted Republican claims during an appearance on CNN on Friday.

“They (the insurrectionists) were there with a purpose to hurt people and they had bad intentions,” Dunn said. “It just hurts to believe that people can think that it was a normal day, it was a ‘tour.’ It’s hurtful. This has nothing to do with politics. It was an all-out attack. It had nothing to do with politics. It was just — it’s so frustrating when you hear people say things like that. How do you look at that tape and see anything else than an assault? I don’t get it. I don’t understand.”

Republicans know this was an insurrection. They supported it by voting to overturn the legitimate election results and they even aided the mob. And they need to held just as accountable as those who stormed the Capitol.
