House Republicans continued their scheme to obstruct the formation of a commission to investigate the Capitol insurrection on Tuesday when Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) delivered remarks in defense of the insurrectionists.

Republicans, especially the 147 House Republicans who voted to overturn the election results, have opposed a commission to investigate the events of January 6th ever since House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced Democrats’ intent to create one.

Hundreds of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol that day to stop certification of the 2020 election results in an attempt to overthrow democracy and install Donald Trump as a dictator, even looking to capture and assassinate lawmakers, including former Vice President Mike Pence and Pelosi herself.

Some Republicans aided the insurrectionists and allegedly gave reconnaissance tours the day prior, which may be why they were able to move through the Capitol and find specific offices so quickly.

That’s why a thorough investigation must take place, but Republicans like Greene are desperately trying to block it.

“I rise in opposition to a commission to study the events of January 6th as well as spending $2 billion in security supplemental,” she said on the House floor. “The question that comes to mind is this. What about all the riots that happened during the summer of 2020 after the death of George Floyd? What about the damage caused to federal buildings, churches, people’s businesses and innocent people that were killed? Is that not an insurrection? Indeed we should have a commission to study the violent BLM and antifa mobs that have plagued American cities this past summer. And that’s for the American people, who by the way pay the taxes that fund everything we do here.”

Except Black Lives Matter did not target lawmakers for assassination, nor did they try to violently overthrow democracy. In fact, much of the property damage Greene is referring to was committed by white supremacists in a scheme to frame the largely peaceful protests against racial injustice and police brutality. Furthermore, antifa is not really a thing and stands for “anti-fascist,” something every American should be.

Green then absurdly defended the insurrectionists and whined about Trump being investigated.

“The people that breached the Capitol on January 6th are being abused,” she claimed. “Some [are] even being held for 23 hours a day in solitary confinement. Also, who killed Ashli Babbitt and why is that not being revealed? Does her family not deserve justice? And lastly, when will the witch hunt of Donald J. Trump come to an end and all of those who support him?”

Here’s the video via YouTube:

Babbitt was rightfully killed by Capitol police in defense of the Capitol as she and others attempted to break into the House chamber where several lawmakers were still taking cover or trying to escape to safety. She’s not a victim and she certainly deserves no justice. And whining about investigations of Trump makes it even more clear that a commission needs to be formed to probe the insurrection and Trump’s role in it. He incited the crowd that stormed the Capitol and delayed the National Guard from responding to the violence. Even Greene should be scrutinized and prosecuted for ginning up the insurrectionists since she called for Pelosi to be assassinated.

Republicans investigated Benghazi for years, yet are refusing to support an investigation of the Capitol insurrection, which resulted in more deaths and the near overthrow of our democracy and Constitution. And it’s obvious that Republicans are working so hard to block it because they helped perpetrate the attack and don’t want to be held accountable for their treason. It’s time for Democrats to create a commission without Republican support. Because it is clear that Republicans would try to sabotage the probe every step of the way to cover up their guilt.
