Former President Barack Obama largely remained silent during the four years when Donald Trump occupied the White House, but now we know how he really felt about him.
Obama’s reluctance to criticize a sitting president is a tradition among former commanders-in-chief. For instance, George W. Bush did not openly criticize Obama, nor did Bill Clinton openly criticize Bush. It’s a show of respect for the current White House occupant. But that doesn’t mean they didn’t privately criticize, and Obama allegedly unleashed on Trump according to a new book by The Atlantic‘s Edward-Isaac Dovere.
Obama, who endured racist attacks by Trump that culminated in rampant birtherism and an eventual public humiliation of Trump by Obama, allegedly called Trump a “madman,” a “racist, sexist pig,” and a “f*cking lunatic.”
“He’s a madman,” Obama said according to the book. “More often: ‘I didn’t think it would be this bad.’ Sometimes: ‘I didn’t think we’d have a racist, sexist pig.’ Depending on the outrage of the day … a passing ‘that fucking lunatic’ with a shake of his head.”
Indeed, Trump’s behavior was beyond erratic and inappropriate. It was downright unpresidential and treasonous, especially after he lost the 2020 Election and incited his supporters to launch a failed coup against the Capitol to overthrow democracy and install him as a dictator. Unlike Obama, Trump has not remained silent but is hell-bent on openly attacking President Joe Biden in any way he can since he is no longer welcome on Twitter and Facebook.
Nothing, however, apparently enraged Obama as much as Trump’s special secret talks with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, whom Trump frequently tried to please and refused to criticize.
“That corrupt motherfucker,” Obama allegedly said.
Obama’s anger at Trump is certainly justifiable. Most Americans feel the same way. Trump was never fit to be president and should never be president again. He should be in prison.
