Fox Host Tucker Carlson has his own deranged conspiracy theory to explain what transpired on Jan. 6th when thousands of pro-Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol, rioted, and killed a police officer: It was all the FBI’s fault.

Yes, he actually said that.

On his show Tuesday evening, Carlson suggested that the reason government prosecutors have decided to “throw the book” at some of the rioters and been lenient with others is because they want to control the overall narrative of what took place.

Oh, and the recent announcement by Attorney General Merrick Garland of a new strategy to combat domestic terrorism is really intended to “crush” anyone that dares to oppose President Joe Biden.

After quoting Russian President Vladimir Putin’s lies about the Capitol insurrection the Daily Beast notes, Carlson looked into the camera and declared:

“Who did shoot Ashli Babbitt and why don’t we know? Are anonymous federal agents now allowed to kill unarmed women who protest the regime? That’s okay now? No, it’s not okay.”

Babbitt, it should be noted, breached the House chamber and was on the verge of getting inside when she was shot by federal officials. But Carlson insisted that the government is “hiding the identity of many law enforcement officers present at the Capitol on January 6, not just the one that killed.”

But Carlson’s rant was just getting started. He then told viewers:

“We know that because without fail, the government has thrown the book at most people who were present in the Capitol on January 6. There was a nationwide dragnet to find them. Many of them are still in solitary confinement tonight.

“But strangely, some of the key people who participated on January 6 have not been charged. Look at the documents, the government calls those people unindicted coconspirators. What does that mean? Well, it means that potentially every single case they were FBI operatives. Really? In the Capitol on January 6?”

The Fox host ended the segment with this flourish of tinfoil-hat madness masquerading as a call for civil liberties:

“If you empower the government to violate civil liberties in pursuit of a foreign terror organization, it’s just a matter of time before ambitious politicians use those same mechanisms to suppress political dissent. And that is what we are seeing now.”

Using Carlson’s flawed logic, if those who disagree with him and Fox News were to storm the network’s headquarters, do millions of dollars in damage, and kill a security guard, they’d be well within their rights to express themselves. And if they were arrested and charged, that would be a violation of their civil liberties.

When black people march for justice, Carlson and Fox scream bloody murder. But when right-wing extremists loyal to Donald Trump try to carry out a coup, we’re all supposed to just sit quietly and allow it to happen. No wonder Fox News has zero credibility and is losing viewers by the millions.
