One of the dumbest lawmakers in Congress, Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC), did some fear-mongering that could end up getting people killed over vaccination efforts.
As the Delta variant of the coronavirus explodes in communities with low vaccination rates, President Joe Biden announced that the federal government is prepared to take on the task of getting more Americans vaccinated by going house to house offering the vaccine to those who have not taken it yet.
It’s a good plan, and it’s an offer that many Americans will likely take advantage of since the vaccine is free. Unfortunately, many of the unvaccinated are conservatives who ridiculously believe that the vaccine is some sort of nefarious government plot to track Americans and control them. Making it worse, Cawthorn gave these already paranoid people another conspiracy theory to be paranoid about during an interview at CPAC in Texas.
“The thing about the mechanisms they would have to build to be able to actually execute that massive of a thing — and then think about what those mechanisms could be used for,” he said. “They could then go door-to-door to take your guns. They could then go door-to-door to take your Bibles,”

Seriously, Republicans now apparently believe that getting Americans vaccinated against a virus that has already killed over 600,000 of their countrymen and women is just a rehearsal for taking guns and bibles away from people. It’s insane, but conservatives will likely believe it. And that means Cawthorn’s words are going to get people killed. Conservatives are already paranoid and bloodthirsty gun nuts who want nothing more than to murder government officials. Now that they think the government is using vaccinations as a guise to take guns and bibles, we can absolutely expect violence from conservative households towards anyone who comes to their door offering a free vaccination.
Madison Cawthorn should already have been expelled from Congress just for not knowing American history, now he should be expelled and held legally accountable if anyone is murdered because of his latest statement.
