Just seven months ago there was an attempt to overturn democracy by force perpetrated by conservatives when they violently stormed the Capitol on January 6th. Now Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is whining about efforts by Democrats to protect voting rights.
In fact, McConnell went so far as to accuse Democrats of trying to “seize total power” and drown out the minority party.
Fascinating to see U.S. Senate Democrats very interested in the legislative minority rights of Texas Senate Democrats while they keep clamoring to steamroll our own Senate rules and seize total power for themselves. pic.twitter.com/Ta7gWst6z2

Texas Senate Democrats recently left the state for Washington DC, not just to highlight the assault on voting rights in red states and urge Congress to pass the For The People Act, but also to deny Republicans a quorum so they can’t steamroll the minority and seize total power for themselves.
And that’s exactly what Republicans want to do through insidious voter suppression efforts they falsely claim are merely safeguards against voter fraud that doesn’t even exist.
The bill Democrats are pushing in Congress would truly safeguard elections while also nullifying Republican voter suppression laws. But because of the filibuster, Republicans are able to block the legislation from being put up for a vote. The filibuster rule is a racist tool Republicans have used for decades to rule from the minority, and it’s not even in the Constitution. In fact, the founding fathers intended legislation to be passed by a simple majority. That means 51 votes instead of the 60 required by the filibuster.
Eliminating the filibuster would return Congress back to its founding principles. The minority would have to convince members of the majority to vote with them instead of the other way around, which they already do considering they have bought off Senators Krysten Sinema (D-Ariz.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) to keep them from supporting filibuster reform.
So, the minority would still have power, just not the power to constantly obstruct and hold America hostage. Furthermore, McConnell is whining because Democrats want to protect voting rights, which would likely favor Democrats only because Republicans know that their policies are deeply unpopular and they can’t win when all American citizens have the unrestricted right to vote.
McConnell is also a hypocrite because he killed the filibuster in order to rush confirmation of conservative judges so as to seize the Supreme Court.
Americans flattened “Moscow” Mitch on Twitter.

As Republican states “fix” election problem that do not exist, making voting more difficult. Why do Republicans not want citizens voting?

Who wants to remind him how he steamrolled Senate rules and seized total power for Republicans?
If hypocrisy was a person, it’d be you.

It’s time for Democrats to end the filibuster so that Mitch McConnell and the Republican Party no longer have the power to keep hurting the country.
