Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) called on House Republicans to persecute and punish every lawmaker serving on the 1/6 Select Committee if his party takes control of the House in 2022.

The committee is investigating the Capitol insurrection and the possible involvement of GOP lawmakers in the attempt to overthrow democracy. Only two Republicans serve on the committee with seven Democrats, and that’s because House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) revoked his nominees after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) vetoed two of his choices for being Trump stooges whose goal was to sabotage the investigation.

Banks is one of the Republicans, along with Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), who was vetoed and went on to demonstrate their unfitness to serve on the committee by falsely blaming Pelosi for the insurrection.

During an interview on Fox News, Banks told Tucker Carlson that every lawmaker taking part in the investigation of the attack on our democracy should be severely punished.

“When we win back the majority next year, we have a duty as Republicans to hold every member of this committee accountable for this abuse of power, for stepping over the line, by preventing them from being in positions of authority,” Banks ranted. “Take them off any committee, get them as far away from positions of power as you can because they’ve shown us that by threatening to do this that they abuse their power, wherever they are.”

Of course, Banks is whining about the committee’s legitimate request for thousands of documents from the Trump administration including phone calls, texts, emails, and memos that could incriminate Trump, Trump officials, and Republican lawmakers in the planning of the insurrection. Even personal phone calls and texts are fair game. It has long been suspected that Republican lawmakers aided the pro-Trump mob in their desire to overturn the results of the 2020 Election. That’s, perhaps, why Republicans have worked so hard against establishing an official investigation of January 6th and why you won’t hear Republicans call for punishing members of their party who helped incite or aided the insurrectionists.

Banks should be investigated for his role in the insurrection and it appears that is what the committee intends to do. He is clearly desperate and scared enough of what the committee will uncover that he is threatening to persecute the committee members simply for doing their duty.

House Democrats need to get tough on Republicans. It’s time for several of the most extremist members to be expelled, especially those like Banks who continue to spout election lies and defend insurrectionists. They are all traitors and should be treated as such.
